All the salt that we apply to pavement, put in our water softener, and apply in fertilizer ends up in our water and Wisconsin freshwater is getting salty. Starkweather Creek is one of over 40 waterbodies in the state with chloride concentrations that are harmful to aquatic life. The City of Madison and dozens of local private companies are working to stop over-salting. Learn more about what’s being done and how you can help protect our lakes, streams, and drinking water.
