Did you know goldenrod supports over 100 species of butterflies and moths that use it as a host plant?! In addition to these incredible ecological benefits, goldenrod can be used to make natural dyes. Join us to forage for Goldenrod flower tops and learn how to use them to make a yellow dye. A pre-mordanted cotton bandanna and silk scarf will be provided to dye. We will learn about dye components like mordants, why we use them, the different results they make, and how to care for your hand-dyed items.
Important Class Info: Bring a bag lunch. Students may have the opportunity to harvest some of their own flower tops depending on goldenrod availability in the gardens. Wear supportive shoes for walking on uneven ground, garden snippers or heavy-duty scissors, garden gloves, and a protective apron if you have one.
